From PICU to 5 West

When they rounded today they decided to transfer Emery to the floor where he would be a little more free to move around and get rid of the oxygen monitor on his foot and the leads on his chest. Since his breathing is now normal and he has been hydrated they didn't think he needs constant supervision. These photos are from the PICU just after the morning rounds. At this point he still wasn't stooling so they decided to leave the NG in his nose to suck the fluid out of his stomach and catheter to collect his urine. Poo and Gas are so important as signs of normal function, so that is what we are looking for- but still nothing. Mood wise- Emery is almost getting back to his normal happy self, which was evident when the PICU nurse brought him a ball. He was so happy but very weak. He just sat with the ball on his lap for a while. He is still pretty tired and swollen from all of the fluid. They talked today about starting PPN, which is the nutrition he will get through his IV. Similar to what he was getting through his IV when he was a little baby. They don't want him to go too long without eating or getting any form of nutrition. He still has an IV in both hands and is getting poked twice a day for blood. We are still waiting on the results of his blood cultures and if that comes back clean after 48 hours we can discontinue the IV antibiotics.
They moved us out of the PICU room in the afternoon to 5 west, where Emery spent most of the first several months of his life. It was nice to see some familiar faces. I'll post more when Emery goes back to sleep.
