Uh Oh!
David and I were on our way to church this first day of February and BAM we got hit. I think it felt worse than it ended up but it was still a sad day for the Camry. Both David and Lainey have now experienced their very first car accident. It is true what they say about it being more likely to get into an accident closer to your home. We hadn't even gotten to the end of the street when an old man, on his way to church as well, crunched the front of our car and spun us around. David thought enough to put the clutch down so the car didn't even die. We pulled off to the side of the road and exchanged information. The old man claimed that he just couldn't stop in time for the stop sign, even though he has lived in this neighborhood for 35 years and has taken the same way to church for a long time- so he must have known exactly where the stop sign was. Oh well, God was looking after us. A second or two in either direction and one of us would have broadsided the other: either we would have hit the elderly woman in the back seat, or he would have hit Lainey. It turns out that since Michigan is a no fault state, this man's insurance would not be covering the damages and we only had liability on our car. Thank goodness the car at least still runs. We have decided to finally take the hint and start looking for another vehical. We need something else in case of an emergency. It is also getting more and more inconvenient to take Lainey out of bed at 10pm, 12am, or 2am to pick David up from the hospital. While it doesn't happen every night, it sure screws up her sleep when it does. It is do-able but not enjoyable. I have to say, looking for a new car when you don't even want to buy one is like trying to decide what to eat when you are already full. It is hard to get motivated to go looking.
