Monday, 06-27-11

Monday we had the ultrasound and they were ready to drain some of the fluid off of his belly. By then, his belly was beginning to look a little smaller. The ultrasound showed that the pockets had gotten small enough that it wouldn't be worth draining any of them. We decided to wait and see how he looked in a few days. Emery is such a good sport. He slept most of the day at this point but when he did wake up for a few minutes he always asked for his "ball" (a.k.a. balloon). His ball was his security blanket and the only thing that seemed to comfort him. He would point to it as soon as he opened his eyes and hold on to it until he was into a deep enough sleep to let go of it without knowing it was gone. I realized later that if it is close enough to your head, it will muffle the noise in the room and it is big enough that you can't see much around it. I think it made him feel safe, in addition to providing an avenue to display his love for any kind of ball he can get his hands on. He may not have the body of a natural athlete but he has the heart!
