Another good day

Emery had another good day of progress today. He woke up with some stool in his diaper- yay! He actually had several stools today, each larger than the one before. His colon is definitely moving now. We started introducing water to see how he does. Tomorrow maybe some baby food or rice cereal. So far so good.

Lainey just loves feeding him ice chips. She got to spend today with us here at the hospital since today is David's last day off. She did very well for most of the time she was here and by the time she was ready to go she kept begging to stay with me or for me to go home. I was secretly cheering while I was convincing her that someone needed to make sure daddy brushed his teeth and made his coffee for tomorrow. It is nice to feel missed by her. She was happy to have a job though. She was all over the responsibility of getting David ready or bed.

Last night was MUCH better than Tuesday night. Emery slept mostly through the night, waking only when it was time to take his blood pressure and again for rounds in the morning. I think it helped to keep him on the same morphine schedule he had during the day. We pushed the button every two hours and he was able to sleep without waking up screaming with pain like the night before. During the day today we only needed pain meds every four hours, so we will continue that tonight and try for every six hours or more tomorrow. Then maybe we will get rid of the pain pump on the IV pole. That would be nice because as of tonight he begins a 22 hour cycle of TPN, giving him 2 hours off in the evening tomorrow. It would be nice to have him off of all of the pumps at the same time.

If things keep progressing as they have been I would imagine we will be going home early next week sometime. Although they haven't come right out and said that. I guess we will see. Goals for the next couple of days are still to get him off of the morphine and cycled down to 18 hours on his TPN/ 6 hours off. Then we will be on our way!

If you would like to pray specifically you could pray for the prolonged good health of Emery's liver and that he remain line infection free so we can maintain the line we need to feed him with the TPN (his "life line"). Without line or liver problems he could go for a long time on TPN before requiring a transplant. In general, pray for Emery's good health and happy spirit. You could also pray that Lainey continues to be so well adjusted, outgoing, and understanding. She has done remarkably well with all of this and I would hope it will help her to become a more compassionate adult someday.

Until tomorrow...
